The most important sporting competition in the world is about to begin: the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Spain will be represented by a team of 382 athletes, 79 of whom (64 Olympic and 15 Paralympic) are members of the Universidad Católica de Murcia (UCAM) setting a record for participation that will surpass that of Tokyo 2020. This achievement is not only a source of pride for Sports Data Campus, but also highlights its commitment as a partner of this world-renowned university institution, demonstrating its ongoing support for Olympic athletes.
In its 12-year history, UCAM has established itself as a global benchmark in value-based education and has become an essential pillar of Spanish sport. It stands out for its innovation and excellence in all sporting disciplines, from grassroots to university and Olympic levels. It has its own teams in basketball, football, canoeing, e-sports and table tennis, and sponsors more than twenty other clubs.
UCAM AT THE RIO 2016 AND TOKYO 2020 OLYMPIC GAMES
In the recent editions of the Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, UCAM athletes won more than thirty medals, positioning itself as the university with the highest number of athletes in these events. At the Paris Games, it will confirm its international prestige.
In Rio, the Spanish team included more than fifty athletes linked to UCAM and won 24 medals (15 Olympic and 9 Paralympic), making it the second university in the world with the most medals in this Olympic event, surpassed only by Stanford (United States). In Tokyo 2020, it had 23 medalists (17 Olympic and 6 Paralympic) and 31 diplomas (19 Olympic and 12 Paralympic).

All Sports Data Campus programmes have the academic endorsement of UCAM, which collaborates and certifies each of our Master’s programmes, allowing students to obtain a unique university degree in the world, with the highest academic and scientific recognition.
UCAM ATHLETES AS FLAGBEARERS AT THE PARIS 2024 OLYMPICS
It is worth noting that among the 79 UCAM athletes are the flag bearers of the Spanish Olympic team, Marcus Cooper (canoe) and Támara Echegoyen (sailing). These athletes will lead the Spanish delegation at the Opening Ceremony on Friday 26 July, repeating the situation in Japan with Saúl Craviotto and Mireia Belmonte.
Marcus Cooper won gold in the K1 1,000 metres at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. In recent years he has been a member of the Spanish K4 team, with which he won silver in Tokyo. In Paris, he will be competing in this category again, along with other UCAM athletes Saúl Craviotto, Rodrigo Germade and Carlos Arévalo. Meanwhile, Támara Echegoyen, along with Sofía Toro and Ángela Pumariega, was an Olympic sailing champion in London 2012 in the Elliot class.
